Funny Videos top Mobile Video Category according to Nielsen

Adweek reports viewers are looking for laughs on their mobile phones. According to a recent Mobile Video Report published by Nielsen, top mobile video categories are comedy, weather, sports, music and news/finance.

Mobile viewing has seen a 20% increase in viewership since last quarter.
More than 60% of thos watching video on their mobiles are below the age of 25, with 70% within 18-49 demographic
NBC 40.1%, Fox (38.3), MTV Networks (32.9), YouTube (29.4%), Weather Channel (28.9) and Comedy Central (25.8).

Interesting to see that most of the top sites are from TV network/cable channels.

Viewers watch mobile videos for an average 13 session/month, about 15' per session.

15 second spots are perfect for mobile. Why? They are not too long, download quickly to the handset without requiring 3G networks (i.e. fast internet access on the mobile phone). Here's a quick guide on how to go mobile with your video ads in no time and no BS:

1. Production

Edit your video to be 10-15 seconds, the sweet spot for mobile
Make sure most of the camera shot focus on your subject, no small items or faces should be in the spot or we won't see them once the video is "mobilize".
Same for on-screen text, make sure that you don't have any text in your video, or if you do (such as the name of the product or a web URL) make sure they are big enough, again to make sure we can read it on the small screen.

2. Publish

Send your spot to u@mogg.mobi
in response you will receive an email or an SMS with the URL to the video once it's published (www.mogg.mobi/video/yourvideo)

3. Promotion

Now, sign up to any mobile advertising site including AdMob, DeckTrade, ThirdScreen, set up your mobile advertising campaign and link to your mobile advertising video hosted by Mogg.mobi by pointing to the URL sent back after the upload. You are in business.

Mogg launched today an iPhone-optimized version of its mobile video sharing site. iPhone users can play any video posted on Mogg including latest movie trailers.

iPhone users who have the ability to record videos can now upload their videos to Mogg by emailing to u@mogg.mobi from directly their iPhone.

Citizen Journalism on Mogg!

Among the new functionalities launched this week on Mogg, users can now create their own mobile channel to post videos. We believe users sending us videos should be able to group their videos in one thematic channel. This new functionality will empower mobile citizen journalism from college newspapers to news bloggers or even independent radio and TV stations that don't have the necessary infrastructure.

Once registered, users create a new channel and assign a short title. The short title becomes defacto the new inbox @mogg.mobi.

Users upload content to the site by send a MMS with a video to upload@mogg.mobi or to the inbox of a specific channel. Users can enter a title into the subject and a short description into the body of the text to explain what's going on in the video.

Once content is uploaded, users can instantly share the URL by SMS. People can view content on the phone or online by going to the URL.

Mogg arrives to Facebook!!!

All videos uploaded to Mogg are now available on Facebook. In Facebook, click on application and search for Mogg mobile video.

Once you add the Mogg application to your profile, it will show all videos posted to mogg.mobi. You may easily share any mobile video with your friends.

Mogg 1.2 is released

Mogg 1.2 introduces many new visible and less visible functionalities. Let's get down to it.

Video Encoding: In addition to 3GP and MP4 videos, user can post videos in any codec or format including MOV, AVI and even FLV (YouTube, DailyMotion, etc..). Mogg will take care of the encoding for mobile phones.

Video download and streaming: With video encoding, Mogg automatically generates a file for download and a file for streaming as some wireless operators block downloads and others block streaming.

Category Management: Users can assign a main category (Music, Travel, Sports, etc..), an unlimited number of tags.

Mobile Channel: This is the coolest new feature of Mogg. Register users can create their own mobile video channel and assign their own inbox to post videos. So go crazy a become a mobile video mogul.

Facebook Application: A Mogg Application is now available on Facebook. Once installed, you can easily share any video posted to Mogg with your friends on Facebook.

New Mobile UI: This is of course the most visible aspect of Mogg 1.2. The new homepage features the last 3 videos, a browse and feature section. Video detail page is streamlined and features all related videos.

Other Improvements: Username is clickable and list all videos uploaded by the user; Login, Registration, My Account and My Preference are all available and easy-to-use on the mobile.

Chances are you have watched the Super Bowl on Sunday and couldn't believe the surprising last minute win of the Giants. Now, you are back to your normal life and would love to live again some of the best moments of the game and describe the best you can all these great tv commercials you saw during breaks. Mogg is here to help you my friend. Today, we launched a new Super Bowl Ads 2008 minisite with most of the tv commercials broadcasted during the Super Bowl. Mogg introduces made-for-mobile original programming

Signaling how mobile entertainment is changing the rules of video content creation, Mogg introduces a set of original made-for-mobile programs using exclusively a mobile phone to record, cut, edit and publish videos.

The first series of original content will be "1-minute Restaurant Review", a series of short reviews of restaurants, very handy for the mobile audience to check restaurants on the go without the hassle of looking for online reviews filled with advertising.

Because Mogg is a mobile video sharing service, every Mogg user is welcome to submit a 1 minute review of their favorite restaurants. The approved reviews will be listed under the 1-minute Restaurant Review channel specifically created. Viewers can subcribe to an RSS feed to receive automatic updates when new reviews are posted.

Advertisment appeared for the first time today on mogg.mobi. We tried not to make it too intrusive in your browsing experience that's why we limited 1 ad banner per page. We use DeckTrade, a self-service mobile advertising company. We generated $2 today.

Mogg Unofficial Launches Today!

Mogg is unofficially launching today at 7PM with friends turned early beta testers - early moggers. Hors d'Oeuvres, drinks and mogged videos will be served.

Some of the tests were instructive. Cingular EDGE is 40Kbps, 3 times faster than T-mobile EDGE. Also, on a Cingular Sony Ericsson W810i, you can directly upload any videos from the phone using their MMS platform by simply sending an MMS to upload@mogg.mobi. If you are a Cingular user, make sur you register your MMS email address - something like phonenumber@mms.mycingular.com as your primary email address on Mogg to make sure Mogg recognizes you.

We'll post photos and off-course videos after no during - the party.

Wahoo, major breakthrough today. After weeks of name searching (we already got the soul), we - ok K - came up with mogg. After so many names, this is the one that we liked the most immediately. We've been through these names (still available if you are interested): biento.mobi. (means soon, gives the idea of immediacy, but without the t, makes it sound spanish, exotic) videlia, videlia.mobi, naze.mobi, zean.mobi, smiile.mobi (not smiile.com), rhyt.mobi, bicca.mobi (bicca = beccare, bequeter, picorer), nebida.mobi, nebita.mobi, nebita.com, vitta.mobi, savva.mobi, edio.com, edio.mobi, viideo.com, viideo.mobi, video2.us, zode.mobi (not zode.com), acajou.mobi, citrone.mobi, zitrone.mobi, fiigoka.com and fiiga.mobi.

Other interesting names were: oodle.com and coffee names from coffee bean: tarrazu, papua, matari, sigri, rippletv.com, sigritv, flop.com, pebbletv, bordom.com, mood, loola, mooda, moone, alea. mozone?

Some names that were not available, calla.mobi and calla.com, otoko.mobi, otoko.com.

We can use mogg in so many ways. mogg it, moggies, mogger. Do you mogg? I mogg u. etc...

Alpha 2 - Romeo Spider

we are getting closer to the second alpha, which we called Romeo Spider - still in the car names. Spider will be the first version to go public. users will be able to email videos to the service and register to manage their videos. by the way, if you want to create a new account click here. First Version of Lola - ROMEO, because it's an Alfa!

We are ready to reveal the first version of Lola Project. Because it's an Alfa, we called it ROMEO...Alfa Romea. Very creative.

The basic functionality is here. Upload a video from a mobile phone, receive a Link2Video back by SMS to share with friends and family.

We've uploaded some examples: personal videos, music videos and movie trailers. We've even uploaded some nice thumbnail and icons to make the navigation a little bit sexier.

We absolutely need to find a good name. It must be short, easy to type on a keypad and available. We're considering a ".com", ".tv" and ".mobi". We even considered a ".us" if we could find a domain name as cool as "del.icio.us"
